Madden NFL 2016 shipped in summer 2015 for the 2015 NFL season. Launch ratings are set before the season is played, so they reflect the previous year’s performance - a player’s breakout shows up in the next year’s game.

Madden NFL 16 released August 25, 2015 with Odell Beckham Jr. on the cover off his rookie one-handed-catch season. Aaron Rodgers, J.J. Watt, and Rob Gronkowski were the launch 99s.

Denver won Super Bowl 50, 24-10 over Carolina, Von Miller named game MVP in Peyton Manning's final game. Cam Newton won regular-season MVP and Offensive Player of the Year with 45 total touchdowns, J.J. Watt took his third Defensive Player of the Year, and Todd Gurley and Marcus Peters won the rookie awards.

Cam Newton is the launch story: rated outside the elite QB tier, he carried a 15-1 Carolina team and won MVP. The miss was Aaron Rodgers, a 99 whose numbers cratered after Jordy Nelson tore his ACL in the preseason.
