Robert Griffin III was born on February 12, 1990 in Okinawa, Japan, played at Baylor, and won the 2011 Heisman Trophy, the first awarded to a Baylor player. Washington selected him second overall in the 2012 draft.
As a rookie he threw for 3,200 yards with 20 touchdowns and five interceptions, ran for 815 yards, and posted a 102.4 passer rating that was then a rookie record. He was named Offensive Rookie of the Year and selected to the Pro Bowl, and Washington won the NFC East for the first time since 1999. Madden NFL 13 rated him 83 for the 2012 season. On January 6, 2013 he tore the ACL and LCL in his right knee in a wild card loss to Seattle. Madden NFL 25 listed him at 89 for the 2013 season, his highest figure.
Griffin started seven games in 2014, and Madden NFL 16 dropped him to 78 for 2015, a season he did not play. Washington released him in March 2016 and he started five games for Cleveland that year. He spent 2018 through 2020 as a Baltimore backup, and Madden NFL 20 marked 2019 at 66. He finished with 9,271 passing yards, 43 touchdowns and 1,809 rushing yards in seven seasons, then worked as an ESPN analyst from 2021 and joined Fox Sports as a college football game analyst for the 2025 season.
