Drew Brees was born on January 15, 1979 in Dallas, Texas, and played high school football at Westlake in Austin. He started at Purdue, and San Diego drafted him in the second round in 2001 with the 32nd pick. He played one game as a rookie, and Madden NFL 02 rated him 71 for that season. He won the Comeback Player of the Year award in 2004, then tore the labrum in his throwing shoulder in the final game of the 2005 season.

New Orleans signed him in March 2006, and Madden NFL 07 rated him 92 for that first season with the Saints. He beat Indianapolis in Super Bowl XLIV in February 2010 and was named the game's Most Valuable Player. Madden NFL 11 rated him 99 for the 2010 season. He passed Peyton Manning for the career passing yards record on October 8, 2018.

He was chosen for thirteen Pro Bowls and was the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year in 2008 and 2011. Madden NFL 21 rated him 93 for 2020, his twentieth and final season. He announced his retirement on March 14, 2021 with 80,358 passing yards and 571 touchdown passes. Sean Payton presented him at his Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement in Canton on August 8, 2026.
