Tyrod Taylor was born on August 3, 1989, in Hampton, Virginia, and played college football at Virginia Tech. Baltimore drafted him in the sixth round, 180th overall, in 2011. He spent four seasons behind Joe Flacco and appeared in 14 games without a start. Madden NFL 12 listed him at 62 for the 2011 season.
Buffalo signed him in 2015 and he won the starting job, throwing for 3,035 yards with 20 touchdowns and six interceptions in 14 games and earning a Pro Bowl selection. He started 15 games in 2016, the season for which Madden NFL 17 gave him his highest mark, 82. In 2017 he started 14 games and Buffalo reached the playoffs for the first time since 1999, losing 10-3 at Jacksonville on January 7, 2018.
Cleveland acquired him in 2018; he started the first three games and suffered a concussion against the Jets on September 20, after which Baker Mayfield took the job. Before a Week 2 game in 2020, a Chargers team doctor punctured his lung with a painkilling injection and rookie Justin Herbert started in his place. Madden NFL 20 had listed him at 71 for the 2019 season. He later started games for Houston, the New York Giants and the New York Jets. Through the 2025 season he had 13,033 passing yards, 73 touchdowns and 34 interceptions, plus 2,424 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns, in 100 games and 61 starts.
