Philadelphia is still built like a champion, and our model keeps the Eagles right where they belong

Updated

The Eagles remain one of the sport's model franchises, and our model treats them like it. When we ran the simulations, Philadelphia came out at better than eleven wins, a notch above a market that already respects them, and the projection rests on the most enviable balance in football. This is a top ten offense fronted by a genuine dual threat quarterback, paired with a defense our grades rank third in the entire league. Teams built this evenly, with a star at quarterback and a suffocating front, are the ones that play deep into January.

Jalen Hurts is the straw that stirs it, and the projection loves him. Our model hands back a line of 3,720 yards and 24 touchdowns behind a passer rating of 100, and that undersells his real value, because Hurts is a scoring threat with his legs that no box score fully captures. He is the rare quarterback who wins with efficiency, toughness, and a rushing dimension that turns fourth and one into a formality and the red zone into a checkmate. When we ran the season, he drove a balanced, physical offense that wore defenses down.

The weapons are excellent even after some turnover. DeVonta Smith remains a precise, productive number one at 77 catches for better than 1,000 yards, and rookie receiver Makai Lemon flashed as a genuine threat at 80 grabs and better than 1,000 yards of his own, a promising young complement. And then there is Saquon Barkley, one of the best backs in football, a projected battering ram who ran for better than 1,200 yards and keeps this offense ahead of the chains. A quarterback who scores with his legs, two capable receivers, and an elite back behind a strong line is a matchup nightmare.

The defense is the foundation, and it is elite. Our grade slots the unit third in the league, and when we ran the simulations it dominated, generating better than 48 sacks and nearly 15 interceptions while holding opponents to just 287 points, one of the stingiest marks in football. Jalen Carter is a wrecking ball on the interior, the pass rush gets home in waves, and the secondary makes plays on the ball. A defense this disruptive turns close games into wins by generating the takeaway or the third down stop that flips a possession.

There was some turnover on defense, and it is worth naming honestly. Philadelphia lost edge rusher Jaelan Phillips, safety Reed Blankenship, and a corner or two, and the depth is a touch thinner than it was during the title run. But the core, led by Carter up front, remains intact and elite, and a third ranked grade with that much turnover tells you how much talent is still on hand. This is a reload, not a rebuild, and the unit remains among the best in the league.

The math of this roster is the math of a contender. A top ten offense with a scoring quarterback and an elite defense wins a lot of games, and it wins the close, physical ones that decide playoff seeding. When we ran the simulations, the Eagles won the grinders on the strength of their defense and the shootouts on the strength of Hurts and Barkley. A team that can win both kinds of game is a team built for a long January run, and Philadelphia is exactly that.

The division adds context without changing the conclusion. The NFC East has a dangerous Dallas offense, but the Giants and Commanders are down, and the Eagles have the most complete roster in the neighborhood. When we ran the season, Philadelphia won the division comfortably, handling the lesser teams and holding serve against the Cowboys. There is no gauntlet here to sink them, only a clear path to another division crown and a high playoff seed.

Our number sits above the market, and it is a defensible lean because it is anchored to a top three defensive grade and a proven quarterback. Vegas already respects Philadelphia. Our model respects them a touch more, because a defense this good paired with Hurts is the kind of foundation that produces double digit wins almost regardless of what breaks. When the disagreement is driven by an elite defense, we take the higher number without hesitation.

The path to being wrong runs through the offensive line's health and the defensive depth. If the line wobbles or Hurts misses time, the offense could dip from great to merely good, and if the thinner defensive rotation gets exposed by injury, the unit could slide from elite to very good. Neither is likely, but both are the normal risks of a contender, and they are the only threads worth watching on a roster this strong.

Everything else points toward another excellent season. The quarterback is a proven winner, the back is elite, the receivers are productive, and the defense is among the three best in football. When we ran the simulations, Philadelphia looked like a top four team in the conference, a genuine threat to reach the Super Bowl, and our model does not hesitate to say so. This is a champion caliber roster, and it is built to stay that way.

So we will take the over and mean it. The Eagles have the balance, the quarterback, and the defense that separate contenders from pretenders, and the market has not quite caught up to how complete they remain. When we ran the year, Philadelphia was one of the best teams in the NFC, and our model sees no reason to talk itself out of it. This is a division favorite and a real threat to play in February, exactly where a franchise this well run belongs.
