Derek Carr was born on March 28, 1991 in Fresno, California, went to Fresno State, and was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the second round, 36th overall, in 2014. He started all 16 games as a rookie, the first Raiders quarterback to do that since Rich Gannon in 2002, and threw for 3,270 yards and 21 touchdowns. Madden NFL 15 listed him at 74 for the 2014 season.
Carr was selected to the Pro Bowl after the 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2022 seasons. In Week 8 of 2016 he passed for a franchise-record 513 yards in an overtime win over Tampa Bay. On Christmas Eve that year he broke his right fibula against Indianapolis; the Raiders finished 12-4 and lost a wild card game to Houston without him. Madden NFL 18 put him at 89 for the 2017 season, his highest figure.
He left the Raiders as their career leader in pass attempts, completions, yards and touchdowns, with 35,222 yards over nine seasons. He signed with New Orleans in March 2023 and made 27 starts across two seasons; Madden NFL 24 rated him 78 for 2023. Carr announced his retirement on May 10, 2025, after a labral tear and degenerative rotator cuff damage in his right shoulder, finishing with 41,245 passing yards, 257 touchdowns and 112 interceptions in 11 seasons.
