Matt Ryan was born on May 17, 1985 in Exton, Pennsylvania, and played college football at Boston College. The Atlanta Falcons drafted him third overall in 2008. His first NFL pass, on September 7, 2008, went 62 yards to Michael Jenkins for a touchdown, and he was named Offensive Rookie of the Year. Madden NFL 09 listed him at 83 for that rookie season.

Madden NFL 12 listed him at 90 for the 2011 season. In 2016 Ryan threw for 4,944 yards and 38 touchdowns and led the league with a 117.1 passer rating, winning NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year and taking first-team All-Pro honors from the Associated Press. On January 22, 2017 he threw four touchdown passes in a 44-21 NFC Championship Game win over Green Bay. Two weeks later Atlanta lost Super Bowl LI to New England 34-28 in overtime. Madden NFL 18 listed him at 96 for the 2017 season, the highest figure of his career.

Madden NFL 22 listed him at 85 for the 2021 season, his last in Atlanta. The Falcons traded him to Indianapolis in March 2022, and he started 12 games for the Colts. He was selected to four Pro Bowls and finished with 62,792 passing yards and 381 touchdown passes. Ryan signed a one-day contract with Atlanta in April 2024 to retire as a Falcon.
