Shaun Hill was born on January 9, 1980, in Parsons, Kansas. He spent two seasons at Hutchinson Community College before transferring to Maryland, where he led the Terrapins to the 2001 ACC title. He went undrafted in 2002 and signed with the Minnesota Vikings, taking his first NFL snaps on two kneel-downs in the 2005 season finale. Madden NFL 05 carried him at 59 overall for 2004.
Hill made his first NFL start for San Francisco on December 15, 2007, against Cincinnati. He started eight games in 2008, throwing for 2,046 yards and 13 touchdowns and taking NFC Offensive Player of the Week honours in Week 11. Madden NFL 09 rated him 79 overall for that season, his highest mark. San Francisco traded him to Detroit in March 2010, where he threw for 2,686 yards; Madden NFL 11 listed him at 70 for that year.
He signed with St. Louis in 2014 and started eight games for 1,657 yards, a season Madden NFL 15 carried at 76 overall. Hill returned to Minnesota in 2015 and started the 2016 opener against Tennessee on September 11, completing 18 of 33 passes for 236 yards in a 25-16 win. He appeared in 49 NFL games with 35 starts, throwing for 8,295 yards, 49 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.
