Ryan Tannehill: Dolphins No. 8 Pick, 2019 Comeback Winner
Ryan Tannehill was born on July 27, 1988, in Lubbock, Texas. He played wide receiver at Texas A&M before taking over at quarterback midway through the 2010 season, and the Miami Dolphins drafted him eighth overall in 2012. He started all 16 games as a rookie, and Madden NFL 13 listed him at 74 overall for the 2012 season. He started every game through 2015, a season for which Madden NFL 16 rated him 85 overall.
Knee injuries cost Tannehill the entire 2017 season. He returned for 11 starts in 2018, including a Week 14 win over New England decided by a multiple-lateral touchdown on the final play. Miami traded him to Tennessee in March 2019. He replaced Marcus Mariota in Week 6, led the league with a 117.5 passer rating, and won NFL Comeback Player of the Year and a Pro Bowl selection. The Titans beat New England and Baltimore in the playoffs before losing 35-24 to Kansas City in the AFC Championship Game.
Tannehill threw a career-high 33 touchdowns in 2020 and took Tennessee to the AFC's top seed in 2021, a season for which Madden NFL 22 rated him 87 overall. Will Levis replaced him as the starter on November 7, 2023, and Madden NFL 24 had listed him at 76 overall for that season. He finished with 34,881 passing yards, 216 touchdowns and 115 interceptions across 12 seasons. He announced his retirement on November 12, 2025.
