Kellen Clemens was born on June 7, 1983 in Burns, Oregon. He played for the Oregon Ducks under Mike Bellotti and finished with 7,555 passing yards, third in school history at the time, after breaking his ankle late in his senior season of 2005. The New York Jets drafted him in the second round of the 2006 NFL draft, 49th overall, behind starter Chad Pennington. Madden NFL 07 listed 74 overall for that rookie season, in which he attempted two passes.

Clemens made his first start in Week 2 of 2007 at Baltimore and started eight games that year, throwing for 1,529 yards with five touchdowns and ten interceptions. Madden NFL 09 listed 77 for the 2008 season, his highest figure, a year he spent behind Brett Favre and threw five passes. He started once in 2009, a 26-3 win at Tampa Bay on December 13.

Washington released him before the 2011 season and Houston waived him after two weeks. St. Louis claimed him in December 2011 and he started the last three games. After Sam Bradford's season-ending injury in 2013 he started the final nine games and threw for 1,673 yards with eight touchdowns; Madden NFL 25 listed 72 for that season. He then spent four seasons with the Chargers without a start, and finished with 4,053 passing yards, 16 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.
