Madden NFL 2023 shipped in summer 2022 for the 2022 NFL season. Launch ratings are set before the season is played, so they reflect the previous year’s performance - a player’s breakout shows up in the next year’s game.
Madden NFL 23 released August 19, 2022 as a tribute to John Madden, who died in December 2021, with three covers bearing his likeness. Aaron Donald, Davante Adams, Myles Garrett, and left tackle Trent Williams anchored the 99 tier.
Kansas City beat Philadelphia 38-35 in Super Bowl LVII, Mahomes named MVP of both the game and the regular season. Justin Jefferson took Offensive Player of the Year with 1,809 receiving yards and Nick Bosa won Defensive Player of the Year with 18.5 sacks. The Jets swept the rookie awards with Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson.
Davante Adams justified his 99 in a new city, catching 100 passes for 1,516 yards in Las Vegas. The launch miss was Russell Wilson, rated in the low 90s after his trade to Denver, who threw 11 interceptions on a 5-12 team. Geno Smith went the other way, leading the league in completion percentage and winning Comeback Player of the Year off a bottom-tier rating in Seattle.
