Christian Ponder was born on February 25, 1988, in Dallas, Texas. He played college football for Florida State, and the Minnesota Vikings selected him 12th overall in the 2011 NFL draft. He made his NFL debut in relief against the Chicago Bears on October 16, 2011, and made his first start a week later against Green Bay. Madden NFL 12 listed him at 73 overall for that rookie season.
Ponder started all 16 games in 2012, a season Madden NFL 13 carried him at 75 overall. In the regular-season finale on December 30, 2012, he threw three touchdown passes and posted a passer rating of 120.2 as Minnesota beat Green Bay to reach the playoffs. A triceps bruise kept him out of the wild-card rematch six days later. Madden NFL 25 gave him a 78 for 2013, his highest figure, though he started nine games.
He made one start in 2014 after Minnesota drafted Teddy Bridgewater, and Madden NFL 15 carried him at 77 for that season. Ponder left the Vikings after 2014 and spent time with Oakland, Denver and San Francisco without playing a regular-season game for any of them. He finished with 6,658 passing yards, 38 touchdowns and 36 interceptions in 38 games across four seasons.
