Cam Newton was born on May 11, 1989 in Atlanta, Georgia. He started at Florida, spent a season at Blinn College in Texas, then won the 2010 Heisman Trophy at Auburn. Carolina took him first overall in the 2011 draft. He threw for 4,051 yards as a rookie, a first-year record, ran for 14 touchdowns and was named Offensive Rookie of the Year. Madden NFL 12 rated him 77.
Madden NFL 13 rated him 89 for the 2012 season. In 2015 he threw 35 touchdown passes and ran for 10 more. Carolina finished 15-1 and lost 24-10 to Denver in Super Bowl 50. He was named Most Valuable Player for that season. He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2011, 2013 and 2015, and Madden NFL 17 rated him 94 for the 2016 season.
A shoulder injury ended his 2018 season early, and a foot injury limited him to two games in 2019. He signed with New England in 2020 and started 15 games, the season for which Madden NFL 21 rated him 78. He returned to Carolina in 2021, his last NFL season. He finished with 32,382 passing yards, 194 touchdown passes, 5,628 rushing yards and 75 rushing touchdowns, the most by a quarterback in league history. Auburn retired his No. 2 jersey on October 11, 2025.
