Zack Martin was born on November 20, 1990 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and played college football at Notre Dame, where he started 52 games at left tackle and was a team captain in 2012 and 2013. Dallas drafted him 16th overall in 2014 and moved him inside to right guard. He started all 16 games as a rookie, made the Pro Bowl and was named first-team All-Pro, the first rookie offensive lineman chosen since Dick Huffman in 1947. Madden NFL 15 rated him 78.
He was second-team All-Pro in 2015 and first-team in 2016, and Madden NFL 17 rated him 92. In June 2018 he signed a six-year, $84 million extension that made him the highest-paid guard in the league. His 2019 selection made him one of five offensive linemen to reach the Pro Bowl in each of his first six seasons, and Madden NFL 20 rated him 96.
He started all 17 games in 2022, played 1,143 offensive snaps, allowed no sacks and drew one holding penalty, and Madden NFL 23 rated him 98. He was first-team All-Pro in 2022 and 2023, and ankle surgery ended his 2024 season after ten games. He played 162 games and started all of them, all for Dallas, with nine Pro Bowls, seven first-team All-Pro selections and a place on the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. He announced his retirement on February 20, 2025.
