The go-ahead catch that won Philadelphia its first Super Bowl
With about two minutes left in Super Bowl LII, Nick Foles found Zach Ertz over the middle, and the tight end stretched across the goal line for the touchdown that beat the Patriots and gave Philadelphia its first Lombardi Trophy. It is the play that follows Ertz everywhere, and he earned the trust that produced it.
The Eagles drafted him 35th overall out of Stanford in 2013, and he became Carson Wentz's and Foles' security blanket, a precise route runner who moved the chains. His 116 catches in 2018 broke the single-season reception record for a tight end, part of a three-year Pro Bowl run from 2017 to 2019. Trades later sent him to Arizona and then Washington, and he has piled up 825 receptions, 8,592 yards, and 57 touchdowns.
Ertz entered the league at a 75 in the 2013 edition and climbed with his production, reaching a 93 in the 2019 edition at the height of his role as one of the NFL's most targeted tight ends.
