Big Play Slay, from junior college to a ring
Darius Slay took the long road, out of Itawamba Community College to Mississippi State, where a coach hung the nickname Big Play Slay on him. Detroit grabbed him 36th overall in 2013, and he grew into one of the league's true lockdown corners, leading the NFL with eight interceptions in 2017 and shadowing the best receiver on the other side every week.
A 2020 trade sent him to Philadelphia, where he added four more Pro Bowl nods to the two he earned in Detroit, six in all. In 2021 he scored three defensive touchdowns to lead the league. The capstone arrived February 2025, when the Eagles hammered Kansas City 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX and Slay finally got his ring. He retired after 13 seasons with 26 career interceptions.
Madden was slow to buy in, listing him at a 71 as a rookie in the 2013 edition. The breakout in Detroit pushed him to a 90 by the 2016 game, and he peaked at a 92 in both the 2022 and 2023 editions during his Philadelphia prime.
