Aaron Donald was born on May 23, 1991 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, played college football at Pittsburgh, and was drafted by the St. Louis Rams with the 13th pick in 2014. As a senior in 2013 he won the Outland Trophy, the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Chuck Bednarik Award and the Lombardi Award. He started 12 games as a rookie and was named Defensive Rookie of the Year, a season Madden NFL 15 rated 79.
He was named first-team All-Pro for the first time in 2015, and Madden NFL 16 rated him 92. In 2017 he won the first of his three Defensive Player of the Year awards, taking the others in 2018 and 2020, and Madden NFL 18 rated him 99. His 20.5 sacks in 2018 led the league and were the most by a defensive tackle in a season since sacks became an official statistic in 1982.
On February 13, 2022 he pressured Joe Burrow into an incomplete fourth-down pass in the final minute of Super Bowl LVI, and the Rams beat Cincinnati 23-20. Madden NFL 22 rated him 99 for that season. An ankle injury held him to 11 games in 2022, and his 16-game 2023 brought an eighth first-team All-Pro selection. He finished with 111 sacks and ten Pro Bowls across ten seasons, all with the Rams, and announced his retirement in March 2024.
