Steelers 2011 first-rounder and 2023 Walter Payton Man of the Year

Cameron Heyward was born on May 6, 1989 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of NFL fullback Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, and played high school football at Peachtree Ridge in Suwanee, Georgia. He spent four years at Ohio State, and Pittsburgh drafted him 31st overall in 2011. He played all 16 games as a rookie without a start, a season Madden NFL 12 rated him 74. He became a full-time starter in 2014, recorded 7.5 sacks, and Madden NFL 15 rated him 84 for that year.

A torn pectoral ended his 2016 season after seven games. He returned with 12 sacks in 2017, earning his first first-team All-Pro selection and the first of six consecutive Pro Bowls. He added 9 sacks in 2019 and 10 in 2021, another first-team All-Pro year, and Madden NFL 22 rated him 92 for that season.

He received the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award for 2023. In 2024, at 35, he was a first-team All-Pro for the fourth time with 8 sacks in 17 starts, and Madden NFL 25 rated him 90 for that season. He was a second-team All-Pro again in 2025 with 3.5 sacks. Through the 2025 season he had 796 tackles and 92 sacks, second in Steelers history behind T.J. Watt.
