Patrick Mahomes was born on September 17, 1995 in Tyler, Texas, the son of major league pitcher Pat Mahomes. He played quarterback at Texas Tech, where on October 22, 2016 he threw for 734 yards against Oklahoma, an NCAA single-game record. Kansas City traded up to draft him tenth overall in 2017. He started one game as a rookie behind Alex Smith, and Madden NFL 18 rated him 76.
He took over as the starter in 2018 and threw for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns, winning the Associated Press MVP award. Madden NFL 20 rated him 97. The Chiefs beat San Francisco in Super Bowl LIV in February 2020, and Mahomes was named the game's MVP. Madden NFL 21 rated him 99. He won a second MVP for the 2022 season and consecutive championships in Super Bowl LVII and Super Bowl LVIII, taking MVP honors in each.
Madden NFL 26 rated him 95. Through the 2025 season he had 35,939 passing yards and 267 touchdown passes. He tore the ACL in his left knee during a Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on December 14, 2025, and Kansas City placed him on injured reserve on December 17, 2025.
