Getting open turned into an art form

Davante Adams led the nation in catches at Fresno State but slid to the second round, then developed slowly in Green Bay before emerging as one of the best route runners the game has seen. His release moves at the line became legendary.

Madden climbed him from a 72 to a 99 in the 2022 edition and again in 2023, on a run of first-team All-Pro seasons and Packers records. His value was not speed but the near-certainty he would get open, the most reliable separator of his generation. A trade to Las Vegas, a receiving-touchdown title and later stops with the Jets and Rams followed, past 1,000 career catches, the ring the one hole in the resume.
