Christian McCaffrey was born on June 7, 1996 in Castle Rock, Colorado, the son of former NFL receiver Ed McCaffrey. At Stanford he set the NCAA record for all-purpose yards in a season with 3,864 in 2015 and won the AP College Football Player of the Year award. Carolina drafted him eighth overall in 2017, and Madden NFL 18 rated him 81.
In 2019 he rushed for 1,387 yards and gained 1,005 receiving yards, becoming the third player to reach 1,000 in both in the same season, and he was named first-team All-Pro. Injuries then limited him to three games in 2020 and seven in 2021. Madden NFL 21 rated him 99. Carolina traded him to San Francisco in October 2022.
Madden NFL 24 rated him 96 for the 2023 season, when he led the NFL with 1,459 rushing yards and 2,023 yards from scrimmage, won Offensive Player of the Year and started Super Bowl LVIII. Madden NFL 25 rated him 99, and injuries then cut his 2024 season to four games. He played all 17 games in 2025 and was named Comeback Player of the Year and a first-team All-Pro. Through the 2025 season he had 7,589 rushing yards, 5,390 receiving yards and 98 touchdowns.
