Tyron Smith was born on December 12, 1990 in Moreno Valley, California, and played at Rancho Verde High School and at USC, where he won the Morris Trophy as the best offensive lineman on the West Coast in 2010. The Cowboys drafted him ninth overall in 2011. He started all sixteen games at right tackle as a 20-year-old rookie, and Madden NFL 12 rated him 77 for 2011.

He moved to left tackle in 2012 and allowed one sack in sixteen starts in 2013, the first of seven straight Pro Bowl seasons. Dallas signed him to an eight-year, $109 million extension in July 2014, and he was named first-team All-Pro that season and again in 2016, when the Cowboys went 13-3. Madden NFL 17 rated him 97 for 2016.

Neck surgery ended his 2020 season in October, and Madden NFL 21 rated him 91 for that year. Ankle injuries cost him six games in 2021, and a torn hamstring kept him out until December 2022. He started thirteen games and was second-team All-Pro in 2023, a season Madden NFL 24 rated him 89. He signed with the New York Jets in March 2024 and started their first ten games. He played 171 games, started all of them, made eight Pro Bowls and the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, and signed a one-day contract to retire as a Cowboy on April 15, 2025.
