Johnny Hekker was a punter opposing coordinators actually had to account for, because he might throw it instead. Undrafted out of Oregon State in 2012, he turned the fake punt into a genuine weapon for the Rams, completing them in the regular season and the playoffs off a former high-school quarterback's arm.

The straight punting was elite too. He set the single-season net average record at 46.0 yards in 2016, made four Pro Bowls, earned four first-team All-Pro selections between 2013 and 2017, and landed on the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. In Super Bowl LIII he was busy in a grind of a loss to New England, punting nine times for 417 yards including a 65-yarder that still stands as the longest punt in Super Bowl history. Three years later he got his ring when the Rams beat Cincinnati 23-20 in Super Bowl LVI.

His Madden arc reads like a career in fast-forward. He debuted at 87 in the 2014 edition, spiked to a 93 in the 2015 edition off his All-Pro form, held in the mid-80s through his Rams years, then slid to a 74 by the 2025 edition as he bounced from Carolina to Tennessee to Minnesota deep into his thirties.
