Joey Bosa held out through the summer of 2016 and still played his way to Defensive Rookie of the Year, wrecking games for 10.5 sacks in only 12 appearances after the Chargers took him third overall out of Ohio State. He was the son of an NFL lineman and the older brother of Nick, who went second overall to the 49ers three years later, and he built his game on hand placement and leverage rather than pure burst. Five Pro Bowls followed across 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2024, and he finished his Chargers run with 77 sacks despite a stack of hamstring and groin injuries that cost him chunks of seasons.

His Madden path mirrored that climb. The rookie card sat at 79 in the 2016 edition, jumped to 90 by 2018, and topped out at 92 in the 2021 edition when he was healthy and disruptive. As the injuries piled up the number slid, down to 87 in 2024 and 85 in 2025, the same spring Los Angeles released him and Buffalo signed him to a one-year deal.
