Madden NFL 2015 shipped in summer 2014 for the 2014 NFL season. Launch ratings are set before the season is played, so they reflect the previous year’s performance - a player’s breakout shows up in the next year’s game.

Madden NFL 15 launched August 26, 2014 with cornerback Richard Sherman on the cover, a rare defensive cover athlete. Calvin Johnson, J.J. Watt, and Sherman were the launch 99s.

New England won Super Bowl XLIX, 28-24 over Seattle on Malcolm Butler's goal-line interception, Tom Brady named game MVP. Aaron Rodgers won regular-season MVP, DeMarco Murray took Offensive Player of the Year with 1,845 rushing yards, J.J. Watt won Defensive Player of the Year, and Odell Beckham Jr. and Aaron Donald won the rookie awards.

DeMarco Murray blew past a middling launch rating to lead the league in rushing. The miss was cover-mate Calvin Johnson, a 99 limited to 13 games and 1,077 yards by ankle trouble.
