Jon Ryan Madden Career 2008-2018 - Peak 90 OVR

Jon Ryan grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan, punted and caught passes for the Regina Rams, and started his pro career in the CFL, where he led the league with a 50.6-yard average for Winnipeg in 2005. Green Bay signed him in 2006, but Seattle is where he made his name, holding the punting job from 2008 through 2017 and becoming the franchise's longest-tenured player.

His signature moment involved no punting at all. In the January 2015 NFC Championship against Green Bay, Ryan took the snap on a fake field goal and threw a 19-yard touchdown to lineman Garry Gilliam, becoming the first punter to throw a touchdown pass in an NFL playoff game. That win sent Seattle to Super Bowl XLIX, which it lost to New England. A year earlier he had already earned a ring in Super Bowl XLVIII, the 43-8 demolition of Denver that made him the first Saskatchewan native to win it all.

His Madden ratings bounced around like a mishit before spiking with the championship run. He sat at an 84 in the 2007 edition, dropped to a 70 in 2009, and rebuilt to an 87 in 2012. The peak came in the 2015 game, a 90 issued just after the title season and the playoff touchdown pass, before the numbers eased to a 75 on his 2018 card. He finished with 1,091 career punts.
