Dustin Colquitt was born on May 6, 1982 in Knoxville, Tennessee, played at Bearden High School and then for the University of Tennessee, where he was a consensus All-American in 2003. The Kansas City Chiefs drafted him in the third round in 2005, 99th overall. He punted 65 times for a 39.5-yard average as a rookie, the season Madden NFL 06 rated him 83.

Colquitt set the Chiefs franchise record with an 81-yard punt in 2007 and signed a five-year extension the following February; Madden NFL 09 rated him 94 for the 2008 season. His 46.8-yard average in 2012 was the best of his career and brought his first Pro Bowl selection, a year Madden NFL 13 rated him 89. He was named to a second Pro Bowl after the 2016 season, for which Madden NFL 17 rated him 82.

In September 2019 he passed Will Shields for the most games played in Chiefs history, and that season ended with a 31-20 win over San Francisco in Super Bowl LIV. Kansas City released him on April 28, 2020 after 15 seasons; he punted for the Steelers and Jaguars in 2020 and the Falcons and Browns in 2021. He announced his retirement on June 4, 2025 with 1,198 career punts for 53,660 yards.
