A steady, athletic punter who flipped fields for a decade

This Chris Jones is the punter, not the All-Pro Chiefs tackle, an undrafted Division II product out of Carson-Newman who held the Dallas punting job for a full decade, a directional specialist with a 44.5-yard average and nearly 200 punts downed inside the twenty.

Madden opened him at a 61 and climbed him to an 85 by the 2019 edition as the punting steadily improved. What set him apart was his athleticism, a pair of memorable fake-punt runs and the distinction of being the first Cowboys punter to recover a fumble on his own punt. He held the job through 2020.
