Jamal Lewis was born on August 26, 1979 in Atlanta and played college football at Tennessee. Baltimore drafted him fifth overall in 2000, and he rushed for 1,364 yards as a rookie on a team that won Super Bowl XXXV. Madden NFL 2001 rated him 84 for the 2000 season. A torn anterior cruciate ligament in training camp cost him the whole of 2001.
He returned in 2002 and then rushed for 2,066 yards in 2003. On September 14, 2003 he gained 295 yards against Cleveland, an NFL single-game record that stood until 2007. That year he was selected to the Pro Bowl, named first-team All-Pro and voted AP Offensive Player of the Year. Madden NFL 05 rated him 97 for the 2004 season, and Madden NFL 06 rated him 94 for 2005.
Lewis signed with Cleveland in 2007 and rushed for 1,304 yards and nine touchdowns in his first season there. Madden NFL 09 rated him 90 for the 2008 season. He announced on November 2, 2009 that he would retire at the end of that year, and finished with 10,607 rushing yards and 58 rushing touchdowns.
