LaDainian Tomlinson was born on June 23, 1979 in Rosebud, Texas. At TCU he ran for 406 yards and six touchdowns against UTEP on November 20, 1999, then an NCAA single-game record, and he led the country in rushing in both 1999 and 2000. San Diego traded the first overall pick to Atlanta in April 2001 and drafted him fifth. He ran for 1,236 yards as a rookie, a season Madden NFL 02 rated 81.
He rushed for 1,645 yards and caught 100 passes in 2003, and Madden NFL 04 rated him 95. Madden NFL 07 rated him 97 for 2006, when he scored an NFL-record 28 rushing touchdowns and 31 in all, set a single-season record with 186 points and won the MVP award. Madden NFL 08 rated him 99 for 2007. He was a first-team All-Pro in 2004, 2006 and 2007 and went to five Pro Bowls.
He signed with the New York Jets in 2010 and played two seasons there, the first of which Madden NFL 11 rated 83. He finished with 13,684 rushing yards, 145 rushing touchdowns, 624 receptions and seven touchdown passes. Tomlinson signed a one-day contract with San Diego and retired on June 18, 2012. The Chargers retired his No. 21 on November 22, 2015, and he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017 in his first year of eligibility.
