Ed Reed was born on September 11, 1978, in St. Rose, Louisiana. He played at Miami and won the 2001 national championship there, and Baltimore drafted him 24th overall in 2002. He started all 16 games as a rookie, and Madden NFL 03 rated him 77.
He intercepted seven passes in 2003, a season for which Madden NFL 04 rated him 90. He had nine interceptions in 2004 and was named Defensive Player of the Year. Madden NFL 06 rated him 99 for the 2005 season. His 106-yard interception return against Cleveland in 2004 and his 107-yard return against Philadelphia in 2008 set the two longest marks in league history.
Madden NFL 11 rated him 97 for the 2010 season. He won Super Bowl XLVII with Baltimore in February 2013, then split the 2013 season between Houston and the New York Jets and did not play again. He finished with 64 interceptions and 1,590 interception return yards, an NFL record, along with nine Pro Bowls and five first-team All-Pro selections. He coached defensive backs for Buffalo in 2016 and joined the staff at Miami in 2020. Reed was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019 in his first year of eligibility.
