Marshal Yanda was born on September 15, 1984 in Anamosa, Iowa. He spent two years at North Iowa Area Community College before transferring to Iowa. Baltimore drafted him in the third round, 86th overall, in 2007, and he started 12 games at right tackle as a rookie. Madden NFL 08 rated him 73 for 2007.

He tore ligaments in his right knee early in 2008 and played only five games that year. Baltimore moved him between right tackle and right guard over the next two seasons, and Madden NFL 11 rated him 80 for 2010. He settled at right guard in 2011 and made the first of six consecutive Pro Bowls. The Ravens beat San Francisco 34-31 in Super Bowl XLVII on February 3, 2013. Madden NFL 13 rated him 96 for 2012.

Yanda was a first-team All-Pro in 2014 and 2015, and Madden NFL 16 rated him 98 for 2015. He took snaps at left guard as well as right in 2016. A fractured ankle in the second week of 2017 ended that season after two games. He returned to start all 16 games in 2018 and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2018 and 2019, finishing with 177 games across 13 seasons, all in Baltimore. He retired on March 11, 2020 and was inducted into the Ravens Ring of Honor in 2022.
