Ronde Barber was born on April 7, 1975 in Roanoke, Virginia, played at Virginia and was drafted 66th overall by Tampa Bay in the third round in 1997. He appeared in one game as a rookie, started nine in 1998 and took the right cornerback job for good in 1999. Madden NFL 2000 put him at a calculated 87 for that 1999 season.

He led the NFL with 10 interceptions in 2001 and was named first-team All-Pro. In the NFC Championship Game at Philadelphia in January 2003 he returned an interception 92 yards for a touchdown in a 27-10 win, and the Buccaneers went on to take Super Bowl XXXVII. Madden NFL 04 rated him 94 for the 2003 season. He was first-team All-Pro again in 2004 and 2005 and made five Pro Bowls, in 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008, with Madden NFL 08 rating him 95 for the 2007 season.

He moved to free safety for 2012, his sixteenth season, and Madden NFL 13 rated him 86 for it. Barber announced his retirement on May 8, 2013 with 47 interceptions, 28 sacks, 1,251 tackles and 215 consecutive starts, all of them for Tampa Bay. He called NFL games for Fox from 2013 to 2019 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2023.
