Stephon Gilmore was born on September 19, 1990, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was a first-team All-SEC cornerback at South Carolina, and the Buffalo Bills drafted him 10th overall in 2012. He started all 16 games as a rookie. Madden NFL 13 rated him 77 that season.
Gilmore made his first Pro Bowl in 2016, his final year in Buffalo, and signed with New England in March 2017. He ended Super Bowl LIII on February 3, 2019, with a fourth-quarter interception of Jared Goff in a 13-3 win over the Rams. In 2019 he led the NFL with six interceptions and 20 passes defensed and was named AP Defensive Player of the Year, the first cornerback to take the award since 2009. Madden NFL 20 rated him 94 that season, and Madden NFL 21 rated him 99 the next.
New England traded him to Carolina in October 2021, and he was named to a fifth Pro Bowl after eight games there. He played the 2022 season in Indianapolis, where Madden NFL 23 rated him 91. He started all 17 games for Dallas in 2023 and spent 2024 with Minnesota. He did not play in 2025 and announced his retirement in April 2026, with 32 interceptions in 180 games over 13 seasons.
