Carl Nicks was born on May 14, 1985 and graduated from North Salinas High School in Salinas, California, in 2003. He played at New Mexico State and Hartnell College before transferring to Nebraska, and the New Orleans Saints drafted him in the fifth round in 2008, 164th overall. He started 13 games as a rookie, a season for which Madden NFL 09 rated him 72.
Nicks started all 16 games in 2009 and all three Saints playoff games, including the Super Bowl XLIV win over Indianapolis in February 2010. He was named to the Pro Bowl and the second-team All-Pro roster for 2010, a season for which Madden NFL 11 rated him 91. He was a first-team All-Pro for 2011, and Madden NFL 12 rated him 96 for that year.
He signed a five-year, $47.5 million contract with Tampa Bay on March 14, 2012, and went on injured reserve that October with a toe injury. An MRSA infection kept him out for most of 2013, when he played two games; Madden NFL 25 rated him 95 for that season. The Buccaneers and Nicks parted ways in July 2014 and he did not play again. The Saints inducted him into their Hall of Fame in October 2017.
