John Lynch: nine Pro Bowls, Canton 2021, 49ers general manager

John Lynch was born on September 25, 1971, in Hinsdale, Illinois, and played football and baseball at Stanford, where the Florida Marlins drafted him as a pitcher in 1992. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took him in the third round, 82nd overall, in 1993. Madden NFL 96 put him at a calculated 76 for the 1995 season, the year he first started at strong safety.

He became a full-time starter in 1996 and made his first Pro Bowl in 1997, and Madden NFL 99 put him at a calculated 87 for the 1998 season. Lynch was named first-team All-Pro in 1999 and 2000. Madden NFL 02 rated him 96 for the 2001 season. Tampa Bay beat Oakland 48-21 in Super Bowl XXXVII on January 26, 2003.

The Buccaneers released him in 2004, and he signed with Denver, where he made four more Pro Bowls for a career total of nine. Madden NFL 07 rated him 94 for the 2006 season. Denver released him on July 31, 2008; New England signed him on August 13 and released him on September 1, and he announced his retirement on November 17, 2008, with 26 interceptions and 13 sacks. He worked as a Fox analyst before the San Francisco 49ers hired him as general manager in 2017, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame inducted him in 2021.
