Steelers safety who moved to corner and made five Pro Bowls

Carnell Lake was born on July 15, 1967 in Salt Lake City, Utah, played linebacker at UCLA, and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round, 34th overall, in 1989. He moved to strong safety and started 15 games as a rookie. He made his first Pro Bowl in 1994 and was named second-team All-Pro, and Madden NFL 95 put him at a calculated 96 for that season.

Rod Woodson tore an ACL in the 1995 opener, and Lake moved to right cornerback while also playing safety. He made the Pro Bowl again and started Super Bowl XXX, a 27-17 loss to Dallas. Madden NFL 96 listed him at a calculated 82 for 1995. In 1997 he had three interceptions and six sacks, was named first-team All-Pro and drew Associated Press MVP votes.

He played left cornerback in 1998 and intercepted four passes; Madden NFL 99 put him at a calculated 91 for that year. He signed with Jacksonville in 1999, made a fifth Pro Bowl and was second-team All-Pro, then missed all of 2000 with a foot injury, a season Madden NFL 2001 listed at 93. He played 15 games for Baltimore in 2001 and finished with 16 interceptions, 25 sacks and 15 forced fumbles in 185 games.
