LSU guard, nine Pro Bowls, Hall of Fame class of 2021

Alan Faneca was born on December 7, 1976 in New Orleans and attended Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas, where he was diagnosed with epilepsy at 15. He was a consensus All-American at LSU in 1997, and the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted him 26th overall in 1998. Madden NFL 99 put him at a calculated 74 for that first season, when he won the Joe Greene Award as the team's top rookie.

He made the first of nine consecutive Pro Bowls after the 2001 season and was first-team All-Pro that year, again for 2002, and in each season from 2004 through 2007. Madden NFL 04 rated him 97 for 2003, when injuries moved him from left guard to left tackle. On February 5, 2006 he blocked for Willie Parker's 75-yard touchdown run in Super Bowl XL, the longest run in Super Bowl history, in a 21-10 win over Seattle. Madden NFL 07 rated him 98 for the 2006 season.

The New York Jets signed him to a five-year, $40 million contract on March 1, 2008. He started every game across two seasons there and reached the AFC Championship Game after 2009, a season for which Madden NFL 10 rated him 97. He played 2010 in Arizona and retired on May 10, 2011 with 206 games played and 201 started. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.

How to read these: Each row is the player’s rating in that year’s Madden, listed by the NFL season it covers (Madden NFL 2001 = the 2000 season). Madden sets its ratings before the season is played, so they reflect the previous season’s performance - a player’s breakout year tends to show up as a jump in the following year’s game.
Note: Some Madden releases tracked fewer attributes than others. Cells shown as - were not published by EA that year.
