A ball-hawk on one of the great corner tandems

Sam Madison set the interception record at Louisville and carried that instinct to Miami, breaking out in 1999 by co-leading the league with seven picks. He formed one of the great cornerback tandems of the era beside Patrick Surtain, a corner quarterbacks learned to avoid.

Madden climbed him from a 76 to a 98 by the 2003 edition, around four straight Pro Bowls and first-team All-Pro honors. He later added a Super Bowl XLII ring with the Giants, part of the team that upset the undefeated Patriots, then moved into coaching for another ring.
