An undrafted grinder who willed himself to elite

James Harrison went undrafted and bounced on and off the Steelers roster for years before a ferocious training regimen made him one of the most feared rushers in football, the first undrafted player ever to win Defensive Player of the Year, in 2008.

Madden had him at 73 and a 98 by the 2012 edition, his prime arriving unusually late, in his thirties. His 100-yard interception return in Super Bowl XLIII remains the longest play in Super Bowl history. Two rings and five Pro Bowls later, draft status meant nothing to him.
