Joey Galloway was born on November 20, 1971 in Bellaire, Ohio, played college football at Ohio State, and was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks eighth overall in 1995. He caught 67 passes for 1,039 yards as a rookie and placed third in Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year voting. Madden NFL 96 put him at a calculated 95 for that 1995 season.

He gained at least 987 receiving yards in each of his first four Seattle seasons, and Madden NFL 99 listed him at a calculated 94 for 1998. A contract dispute held him to eight games in 1999. Seattle traded him to Dallas in February 2000 for first-round picks in 2000 and 2001, and a knee injury limited him to one game that year, a season for which Madden NFL 2001 rated him 90.

Dallas traded him to Tampa Bay for Keyshawn Johnson in March 2004. From 2005 through 2007 he became the first Buccaneer with three consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons, at 1,287 yards, then 1,057, then 1,014. Madden NFL 07 rated him 89 for the 2006 season. He also played three games for New England in 2009 and 10 for Washington in 2010. He finished with 701 receptions for 10,950 yards and 77 touchdowns in 198 games.
