Herman Moore Madden Career 1992-2002 - Peak 99 OVR

Herman Moore was one of the dominant big receivers of the 1990s, a Virginia product Detroit took tenth in 1991 whose number was later retired by the school. He was six-foot-four with a huge catch radius, and after a slow start he became the perfect complement to Barry Sanders, giving the Lions a passing threat to match their historic runner.

The Madden card recognized that peak early, with the usual pre-1997 conversion wobble. He hit a 99 in the 1997 release, making him one of the first members of the game's 99 club, and reached the ceiling again in Madden NFL 99. Those numbers came right around his 1995 season, when he set the then-single-season receptions record with 123 catches, a mark that captured how central he was to the Detroit offense.

He made four straight Pro Bowls and three first-team All-Pros, spent eleven of his twelve seasons in Detroit, and finished with 670 catches and better than 9,000 yards before a final year with the Giants. He went into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2026. Moore is a bit underrated in the modern memory, overshadowed by later receivers, but at his peak he was as productive as anyone. His early 99s are the fair record of a big receiver who briefly held the catch record and anchored a memorable Lions offense.
