Donovin Darius Madden Career 1999-2007 - Peak 93 OVR

Donovin Darius hit like a strong safety was supposed to hit in the early 2000s, before the rulebook caught up to him. Jacksonville made him a first-round pick, 25th overall, in 1998 out of Syracuse, where he left as the school record-holder with 379 tackles by a defensive back. He spent all nine of his NFL seasons with the Jaguars, patrolling the deep middle and daring receivers to come across it.

That aggression sometimes crossed the line. In 2004 he was ejected and fined $75,000 for a clothesline tackle on Packers receiver Robert Ferguson, and he later called Ferguson in the hospital to apologize. Madden charted his development plainly: an 82 in the 2000 edition, a dip to 77 by 2002, then a steady four-year climb to a peak of 93 in the 2006 game. He last appeared at 82 in the 2008 version. Never a Pro Bowler, he was still the enforcer the Jaguars defense was organized around for the better part of a decade.
