Hugh Douglas: Central State to Rookie of the Year and 80 sacks

Hugh Douglas was born on August 23, 1971, in Mansfield, Ohio, and played college football at Central State University. The New York Jets took him 16th overall in the 1995 draft, and the Associated Press named him Defensive Rookie of the Year that season. Madden NFL 96 put him at a calculated 69 for the 1995 season.

The Jets traded him to Philadelphia for second- and fifth-round picks before the 1998 season, and Madden NFL 99 listed him at a calculated 83 for that year. He recorded 15 sacks in 2000 and was named first-team All-Pro, the first of three consecutive Pro Bowl seasons. Madden NFL 03 rated him 94 for the 2002 season.

Douglas signed a five-year contract with Jacksonville on March 15, 2003, started all 16 games and finished the year with 3.5 sacks. Madden NFL 04 rated him 97 for the 2003 season, the highest figure of his career. The Jaguars released him after one season, and he returned to Philadelphia for 2004 and appeared in 16 games for a team that reached Super Bowl XXXIX. He retired with 80 career sacks, later worked as a goodwill ambassador in the Eagles front office and then in Philadelphia television and Atlanta radio. Central State inducted him into its athletics hall of fame in 2010.
