Three Pro Bowls in Jacksonville, then a suspension and a trade
Marcus Stroud was born on June 25, 1978 in Thomasville, Georgia, and played at Georgia, where he captained the 2000 team. Jacksonville drafted him 13th overall in 2001. He played all 16 games as a rookie without a start, and Madden NFL 02 rated him 68.
He took over as a starter in 2002 and made the Pro Bowl after the 2003, 2004 and 2005 seasons, adding second-team All-Pro in 2003. The rating tracked it: 84 in Madden NFL 04, then 93, 96, and a peak of 97 in Madden NFL 07. Alongside John Henderson he gave Jacksonville a 300-pound interior pair that started together for six years.
On November 6, 2007 the NFL suspended him four games for violating its policy on anabolic steroids; he said the substance came from a supplement taken while recovering from ankle surgery. Jacksonville traded him to Buffalo in March 2008 for third- and fifth-round picks, and he started 45 games across three seasons there as the rating fell from 94 to 82. New England signed him in March 2011 and released him in July without a regular-season snap. He finished with 146 games, 129 starts and 29.5 sacks, and signed a one-day contract to retire as a Jaguar in June 2012.
