A journeyman who became elite in his thirties
Evan Mathis spent his early career bouncing through Carolina, Miami and Cincinnati without a home. Then he landed in Philadelphia in 2011 and, in his thirties, became one of the best guards in football, consistently drawing the top grades in the league.
Madden climbed him from years in the 70s and low 80s to a 98 by the 2014 edition, around his dominant Eagles seasons, when metrics rated him the best guard in the game. Two Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl 50 ring with Denver later, he was a study in late-career reinvention.
