Walt Harris: 35 interceptions and a Pro Bowl after 2006

Walter Lee Harris was born on August 10, 1974 in LaGrange, Georgia and played college football at Mississippi State, where his 16 interceptions tied the school career record. The Chicago Bears selected him 13th overall in the 1996 draft. He started 13 of 15 games as a rookie with two interceptions and three forced fumbles, and Madden NFL 97 listed him at 30 for that 1996 season.

Harris intercepted five passes in 1997 and started every game he played from 1998 through 2000. Madden NFL 2000 put him at a calculated 87 for the 1999 season. He signed with Indianapolis on March 18, 2002 and with Washington two years later to the day, starting 12 games for the Redskins in 2005.

San Francisco signed him on March 15, 2006, and he led the team with eight interceptions, returned one 42 yards for a touchdown, was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for November and replaced the injured Lito Sheppard in the 2007 Pro Bowl. Madden NFL 08 had him at 88 for the 2007 season. He tore an anterior cruciate ligament during offseason work in 2009 and did not play again. Harris finished with 193 games, 35 interceptions and four defensive touchdowns, and was added to Mississippi State's Ring of Honor in 2018.

How to read these: Each row is the player’s rating in that year’s Madden, listed by the NFL season it covers (Madden NFL 2001 = the 2000 season). Madden sets its ratings before the season is played, so they reflect the previous season’s performance - a player’s breakout year tends to show up as a jump in the following year’s game.
About the starred rows*: Several early Madden releases rated players on a 1-15 scale, as printed in the game manuals, rather than the modern 0-99. We store those ratings converted to 0-99 (each manual point is about 6.6) so you can compare players across eras at a glance - use the 0-99 / 1-15 toggle above the table to see the original numbers on those seasons. EA didn’t publish an overall rating in those games, so the OVR* values for those years are our own calculation, the average of the player’s two best ratings.
Note: Some Madden releases tracked fewer attributes than others. Cells shown as - were not published by EA that year.
