Pat Williams was born on October 24, 1972 in Monroe, Louisiana. He played junior college football at Navarro College and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M before finishing at Texas A&M. He went undrafted in 1997 and signed with the Buffalo Bills, appearing in one game as a rookie. Madden NFL 2001 rated him 72 for the 2000 season, and he became a full-time starter the following year.
Madden NFL 04 rated him 94 for 2003, the year his teammates voted him the Ed Block Courage Award. On December 5, 2004 he returned an interception of A.J. Feeley 20 yards for a touchdown in a 42-32 win over Miami. He signed with Minnesota before the 2005 season and played nose tackle next to Kevin Williams on a defense that led the NFL against the run from 2006 through 2008. He made the Pro Bowl after each of those three seasons and was second-team All-Pro for 2007, and Madden NFL 09 rated him 98 for 2008.
The league suspended him four games in December 2008 over a banned diuretic, and he contested the case until the Minnesota Supreme Court declined his appeal in April 2011. He finished with 200 games, 157 starts and 20.5 sacks, and signed a one-day contract on April 23, 2013 to retire as a Viking.
