Michael Strahan was born on November 21, 1971, in Houston, Texas, and played college football at Texas Southern. The New York Giants drafted him in the second round, 40th overall, in 1993. He appeared in nine games as a rookie and became a full-time starter in 1994, a season for which Madden NFL 95 gave him a calculated 47.

Strahan reached his first Pro Bowl after the 1997 season and was a first-team All-Pro in 1997 and 1998, the year Madden NFL 99 listed him at a calculated 89. He recorded 22.5 sacks in 2001, breaking a single-season mark that had stood since 1984, and was named Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year for that season. Madden NFL 03 rated him 99 for the 2002 season.

He spent all fifteen of his seasons with the Giants and finished with 141.5 sacks, seven Pro Bowl selections and four first-team All-Pro selections. His last game was the 17-14 win over New England in Super Bowl XLII on February 3, 2008, and he announced his retirement on June 9 of that year, with Madden NFL 08 having rated him 94 for 2007. He entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014, and the Giants retired his No. 92 on November 28, 2021.
