Roy Williams SS - Cowboys Madden Career 2003-2011 - Peak 96 OVR

Roy Williams was born on August 14, 1980 in Redwood City, California, and played three seasons at Oklahoma. He started on the 2000 BCS national championship team and won the Jim Thorpe Award in 2001. The Dallas Cowboys drafted him eighth overall in 2002. He played free safety as a rookie alongside Darren Woodson and returned two interceptions for touchdowns, and Madden NFL 03 rated him 82.

Williams was a first-team All-Pro in 2003 and made five straight Pro Bowls through 2007, and Madden NFL 04 rated him 90. He moved to strong safety in 2005, a season in which he had 2.5 sacks and three interceptions and Madden NFL 06 rated him 96. NFL owners banned the horse-collar tackle in May 2005 after three players were injured on the technique during the 2004 season, and the change became known as the Roy Williams Rule. He was suspended a game in December 2007 for a repeat violation of it. Madden NFL 08 rated him 92.

He broke his forearm in the second game of 2008, refractured it in his first game back and missed the rest of the year. Dallas released him at his request in March 2009 and he signed with Cincinnati that May. He retired on August 24, 2011 with 20 career interceptions and became a sideline reporter for Oklahoma football broadcasts.
